Paprika, a Sarkaz mercenary who left her original post, is a straightforward, lively girl. When we first made contact with her, we could also see the silhouettes of a few other Sarkaz related to us behind her. In other words, this girl and the Sarkaz mercenaries she brought with her were guided to us. With her childish appearance, not many see her as a full-fledged mercenary. At most, she's like a girl scout. She's too young, too inexperienced, and doesn't think most things through. A kid like her should never have been fighting a war in Londinium—Most operators who've met her share this opinion. And that is indeed the case. While working with her mercenary team in Columbia, Paprika took on only minor duties such as serving as a bodyguard or slaying wild beasts. When her team leader, Grimm, heeded Theresis's call and told everyone they were heading to Londinium, she did not even understand what this new contract entailed. Trusting in her captain, the Sarkaz girl ignorantly marched into Londinium and followed the orders of the higher-ups. This lasted until she was brought back to the barracks by Manfred and soon saw for herself what war was really like.

Paprika's parents died in an accident when she was still young. Thus, she was raised by her grandmother in a small town in Columbia. The town was several hours away by car from the nearest nomadic city, and a large number of Pioneers and Infected gathered in the area. Although life was hardly luxurious, she nonetheless enjoyed a happy, stable childhood thanks to the hand-knitted items her grandmother sold for a living. Like most Sarkaz, Paprika became infected with Oripathy at a young age. According to her, on her tenth birthday she woke up, rubbed her eyes, and stood in front of her chipped mirror to find a small rock having emerged from her chest. She immediately understood that she was already Infected. The Sarkaz girl's condition was fairly stable most of the time, and she's had no critical flare-ups. To the Sarkaz, Oripathy infection is almost a foregone conclusion, so becoming Infected is hardly a major disruption to their lives. When a company, facility, or city already rejects the Sarkaz, it doesn't matter to them whether the one they're refusing entry to is also infected or not. After her infection was confirmed, Paprika's path to adulthood became more or less set in stone: Her grades at school were only average, so she had no opportunity to continue her education. The school she was enrolled in encouraged her to drop out, and no other would accept her. Unable to attend school anymore, she at first helped her grandmother with her knitting business. Then she followed the local Pioneers and started slaying wild beasts out in the barrenlands for money. In the process, she came into contact with a team of Sarkaz mercenaries, and after spending some time with them chose to join them as well. After all, other than becoming a mercenary, what choice did a Sarkaz like her have?

[Purchase Order 004] Items: Yellow, green, purple, and white yarn. Give me one bundle each. And two blacks! Usage: Personal use! Remarks: If there are any discounts, buy more! [Purchase Order 005] Items: Red, black, and white yarn, two bundles each. A sack of decorative colored beads. Usage: Personal use! Remarks: The brand we went with last time didn't work all that well. Try to pick something higher quality and more durable! It doesn't matter if it's more expensive. Be especially on the lookout for something that holds up against explosions... By the way, does anyone know how often W and Ines come aboard? [Purchase Order 006][Cancelled] Items: Red, black, and white yarn, ten bundles each. Usage: Personal use!!! Remarks: No need to worry about how well it holds up against explosions anymore. It's meant for holding explosives, anyway. [Purchase Order 007] Items: Red, black, and white yarn, ten bundles each. Five sacks of decorative colored beads. Usage: Ask that damn W! She's the one who's getting any use out of this! She said this can be expensed... I can expense this, right?! Remarks: Give me the cheapest you can find!! [Logistics Department Log] That Sarkaz girl who loves knitting just stopped by. She snatched the purchase order she turned in earlier right back. This is the second time she cancelled a purchase order this afternoon, though. I guess that white-haired bomb freak Sarkaz merc probably pulled her leg and told her something like, 'Your stuff's not so bad. They're just perfect for sticking bombs in to fool people. Make me a couple more next time.' She didn't have to make them. What an honest girl. As for expensing this stuff? Forget it. She has a knack for this, though, so maybe she should look into selling her wares on the ship. She'd probably make her money back.

Paprika has clearly matured after the string of events she experienced. Having come face-to-face with the cold, harsh truth, she's started to think about a lot of questions she had never considered, such as what meaning does the rebuilding of Kazdel hold for the Sarkaz, how do wars happen, and why do people choose to give their lives without a second thought? Just like how until recently she was still completely ignorant of everything. Why did so many Sarkaz participate in the war when they didn't even have a reason to fight? Why did they have to choose to either kill or be killed on the battlefield? Are death and parting really so common to mercenaries that there's nothing to be so sad about, like what Old Grimm told her? Paprika still hasn't found concrete answers to many of her questions. However, every time she stares down at the old cigarette box in her hands, she thinks back to that night in the Columbian wilderness, when the mercenary team had set up a tent and a campfire. Old Grimm sat next to the fire. The exposed areas of the old Sarkaz man's body were covered in scars, and every time his lips twitched, the look on his face would scare the pants off any normal folks in the vicinity. Nonetheless, he would always give the freshest roasted jerky to the team's youngest girl, and downplayed it like he wasn't taking care of the youngsters. When he talked about the good life awaiting the Sarkaz just around the corner, even the scars on his old face stretched as he grinned. Sadly, luck wasn't on Old Grimm's side. Soon enough, he gave his life in Victoria. When she was detained by Manfred, Paprika held onto the cigarette box she got from the old man and tried her hardest to imagine the good life that he looked forward to so much. What would that life be like? Would they never catch Oripathy again? Or would they get to pay less money each year and not be rejected for 'insufficient qualifications' when applying for school or work, simply because they're Sarkaz? 'I used to think being a mercenary was great. We put our skills to use to make a living.' That's what Operator Paprika told our other mercenary operators. 'But they said I wasn't a full-fledged mercenary. They told me I hadn't even killed. 'Then I finally figured it out and made sure of it. 'It doesn't matter what grand objectives Manfred and the men above him have, at the very least, following a bastard like him and becoming a 'full-fledged mercenary' who kills without blinking an eye is not the kind of life I want to live!'

[Mistakenly Recorded Communications Log] 'I take good care of her? Do I now? I just thought I'd give her a hand since she's new here, and so young.' 'Huh? What do you mean, I'm bigger than her?! Of course I'm bigger!' 'This has got nothing to do with whether she's a Sarkaz or not. And nothing to do with the wool knee pads she gave me last week, either! That shit's for old people, they clash with my style!' 'She's been knitting a lot of stuff for everyone, saying it's her way of thanking them for always taking care of her. Plenty of people got them. She even made those earmuffs the Doctor's been wearing lately.' 'Hibiscus told me she likes that little medical pouch she got, too. I mean, it is pretty practical. So how come I got stuck with the knee pads? They even have these goddamn pompoms hanging off of them... No, that's not the point!' 'For a girl that young to get herself caught up in what went down in Londinium... luck sure wasn't on her side. But she's still got all four limbs, still alive and kicking. She's even saving up some money to send home, so she's definitely not completely down on her luck.' 'The little trinkets she made for Beanstalk's metal crabs don't look half bad, either. Aren't they planning on putting out some kind of merch? I know the Doctor invested some money in that, too.' 'And what's wrong with that? She became a merc because she didn't know what else she could do. She's got no real reason, otherwise. So if she's found something she likes doing, what's wrong with a little career change?' 'There are still loads of others who were dragged into this mess just like her. We can give her a push in the back, but we can't give her an answer. It's her own mess, let her sort it out. Let her look, hear, and think on her own.' 'She can handle it.'
I'm not good at this stuff either. Huh? They need it done today? Eh... Fine, I told you I'd help. I keep my word. Give it here. I'll take half, but you gotta finish the rest on your own!
Got any salt on you, Doc? Here, gimme some. I made potatoes. They taste so good when you sprinkle salt on them! We eat them like this a lot when we're out on a job! I roasted some fruit, too. Take it to W and Ines... Don't tell them it's from me! Got it?
I heard I might run into W here? Seriously? She and Ines saved me a while back, and I'm thankful for it, but she can be real annoying sometimes... Doc, I'm surprised you had the guts to hire her.
Manfred, that jackass! He actually did it! And he was serious about it, too! I totally thought I was going to die... Ugh, I know he's got his reasons... but I still can't let it slide! I've got a grudge!

You were leading the squad then, right? Hmph, how could I forget? You gave me a real bad time! But if I had to do it again, I'd still choose to take everybody and bug out... I don't want to have to watch somebody sacrifice themselves ever again.

Is rebuilding Kazdel really a good idea? I don't know. All I know is I care more about the people around me—my squadmates, everyone from Rhodes Island... of course, that includes you, Doctor! We're buddies now, right?

If Kazdel really gets rebuilt, does that really mean us Sarkaz all get to come back and reunite together? What will the Victorian rebels think of us? I can't see how this all ends... I don't know...

Doc! Is the mail in? Anything for me? Thing is, I was raised by my nana in a small town in Columbia, and we still write to each other! I'm always telling everyone here to write home more often, but for some reason they get pretty upset about it. I wonder why.
Requires [ Trust 200%]
C'mere, Doc. Try this on! Hm... Looks great on you. My nana knitted it for you! It matches mine, too! How's it feel? Comfy and warm, right? I told Nana all about you, and she called you a good egg!
So bored... Maybe I should knit something. What do you think of this little pouch? It's very practical!
Hey there! Starting today, my squad and I are at your beck and call, Doctor. Call me Paprika. You seem like a solid employer, but you're still on probation! I've got my eye on you!
Are these the ancient Sarkaz tricks the old folks talk about?
Requires [ Elite 1 Lv. 1]
Awesome, I finally got promoted! Hehe, you said you'd let me lead my own squad after my promotion. You're a doctor of your word, aren't you?
Requires [ Elite 2 Lv. 1]
Doctor! You're a mighty fine employer! Amiya looks real dependable, too. There's no going wrong, hitching my wagon to you. If you've got any more high-paying gigs, be sure to give me a holler!
Hehe, you picked the right girl for the job!
Just leave it to me! I've got some experience leading a squad.
Stay safe and keep in contact. Remember, the mission comes second. Your lives come first!
Let's clear the place in one fell swoop!
Don't worry. I've been standing by here.
I don't pick fights I can't win.
Not one of you is getting away!
Don't get careless just because I'm here!
Everyone hanging in there?
Get behind me, if you feel yourself slipping!
We can't have any more casualties...
You bastards... Scram! I'm busy here!
You're pretty amazing, coming up with a strategy like that... I gotta say, you're a lot better than W just lobbing bombs at everything.
Awesome, smooth like butter! Hehe, I didn't need any backup that time. Let's see what W and Ines have to say!
A few footmen slipped past us, but that's no big deal, right? Yep, everyone made it out of the fight alive. I call that a big win!
N-No way... Doctor, you aren't trying to hold the line here, are you? C'mon, quit spacing out. Hurry up and run!
Rhodes Island really treats us well... Oh, don't be so humble. This is much better than the dump we used to live in!
Whoa! What's up?
This poncho feels great, right? Nana knitted it for me. It's so warm.
Arknights.
Hey, Doc. What kind of missions do we have today? Oh, right. Let me get this out of the way. I'm not taking anything too crazy!

On the battlefield, Paprika always takes it upon herself to look after every companion of hers. Even if her power falls short at times, she'll never let even a single compatriot fall by the wayside. 'Of course I'll save you! Because we're friends in this together!' says the young Sarkaz.
